Electricity is a powerful energy source and needs to be used safely. There are several situations where helpful tips can keep you safe both inside your home and outside.
Use electric appliances away from sources of water and make sure that flammable or combustible items are NOT near appliances so they do not catch on fire. Always carry appliances by the handle, not the cord. Do not overload electric outlets and use safety outlet caps to keep children from putting items into the socket.
Stay away from downed power lines. Always call 811 before you dig to keep from hitting underground utility lines. Stay away from high voltage equipment like transformers, substations and transmission lines. Look overhead and watch for power lines. Go inside when there is a storm. Lightning is always possible when wind is around.
